How to change the dial-up access number - WinXP Print

To change the dial up number for Virtual Access under Windows XP follow the instructions below.

The simplest method is to just change the number when the "Connect to ..." box appears. If you change the number in this way, you will be prompted "Make the phone number change permanent?". Select "Yes".

Unfortunately, this simple method does not always work. The connection box may not appear if you have the automatic dialling option selected. If you cannot change the number in this way, the following method will get the job done:

Click on the "Start" button at the bottom left of the screen.

Click on "Control Panel"
Then double click on the "Network Connections" icon

You should see a connection to "Virtual Access" or "Virtual Computers".

Note: You may have other icons if you have or have had other ISPs

Click your RIGHT mouse button on the "Virtual Access" (or "Virtual Computers") icon - VERY IMPORTANT: Use the Right button, not the left button. Click once only, do not double-click. Failure to perform this step correctly results only in a temporary change to your configuration.

Select the "Properties" option from the pop-up menu that appears. If you do not see a pop-up menu with a properties option, you have double-clicked the icon. Try again using the right mouse button.

Replace the number shown with the new access number, and turn off the "Use dialing rules" option if it is selected.

Click the "OK" button and close the "Network Connections" screen.

You should now be ready to connect to the internet as usual.

You have now completed this procedure.
