How to change the dial-up access number - Win95/98 Print

To change the dial up number for Virtual Access under Windows 95 or Windows 98 follow the instructions below.

From the Windows Desktop (the main screen with all the icons),
double click on the "My Computer" icon
Double click on "Dial Up Networking"

You should now see a screen that looks similar to this.

Dila-Up Networking window

Note: You may see other icons if you have (or have had) connections to other ISP's or similar services.

Click your RIGHT mouse button on the "Virtual Access" (or "Virtual Computers") icon - VERY IMPORTANT: Use the Right button, not the left button. Click once only, do not double-click. Failure to perform this step correctly results only in a temporary change to your configuration.

Select the "Properties" option from the pop-up menu that appears. If you do not see a pop-up menu with a properties option, you have double-clicked the icon. Try again using the right mouse button.

DUN Connection

Enter the new telephone number in the place provided, and turn off the "Use area code and Dialing Properties" option if it is selected.

Do not change any other details
unless instructed by Help Desk staff.

Once you have finished entering the new phone number and have checked that it is correct, click on the "OK" Button.

Close the "Dial Up Networking" screen (click the "X" button).

You should now be able to connect to the internet as normal, with the new connection number.

You have now completed this procedure.
