" Virtual Access ... have always looked after me in the past and I can’t see that changing! "

2005-10-12 New dial-up plan & price reductions Print

Virtual Access is pleased to advise you today of changes to some of our dial-up Internet services. These changes will mainly effect customers on the 150 hour per month plan by reducing costs. Impact on other service plans is minimal.

To determine how this announcement will effect you, you will need to know which Virtual Access service plan you currently subscribe to. If you do not know, please refer to your most recent service invoice. If you no longer have a copy of your invoice, please:

  1. Go to our web site,
  2. http://www.virtual.net.au
  3. Click on the "My Account" option in the website's menu
  4. Login with your service username and password. Details can be found on your welcome letter, or in your setup booklet (if applicable)
  5. Once you're logged in, click on the "Invoices" option. Your most recent invoice will appear at the top of the list presented.
  6. Click on the invoice number to display the invoice details, which will include the details of your service plan(s).

Please note that this announcement does NOT effect ADSL or domain/web hosting services.

For customers with 150 hour per month plans

The price of your service is dropping. The price change will generally take effect automatically from your next invoice. There are a small number of customers for whom it will not take effect automatically. If you are in this group, we will contact you by email with details in the next few days.

The maximum duration of a single online session will increase from 5 hours to 8 hours immediately.

If you need more online time than your plan currently offers, you should consider our new UNLIMITED plan. It is price the same as the new 150 hour plan, but has a maximum duration of 4 hours per connection. To request a change of service plan, please use the Dial-Up plan change request form available from http://www.virtual.net.au/goto.php?page=forms

Pricing and service information for the modified 150 hour per month plan, and the new UNLIMITED plan is available online at http://www.virtual.net.au/goto.php?page=dialinfo

For customers with the "Additional User" option

The additional cost of this option drops to $5.50 per month, per additional user (was up to $11 per month, depending on your billing frequency).

For customers with Block Time, 10 hour per month, or 30 hour per month plans

The only change to your services is the imposition of a new per-call duration limit of 8 hours. This limit can be removed on request, and is being added only to provide a "safety net". We regularly receive requests from customers seeking service credit because they accidentally left their Internet connection active overnight - or sometimes, for several days. This limit is intended to prevent such mishaps.

Given that this group of service plans is intended only for low-medium use, we do not anticipate that an 8 hour session limit will cause any inconvenience. If you wish to have the limit removed from (or increased for) your service, simply email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your request (please include your security PIN code with all requests). This limit is optional on all plans up to and including the 30 hour per month plan.

Because of the nature of this particular change, it will not be introduced to your service until 11 November 2005.

Finally, customers on the 30 hour plan or those with increasing online time needs are encouraged to consider our new 150 hour and UNLIMITED plans, as these services may now be more appealing for your needs. To request a change of service plan, please use the Dial-Up plan change request form available from http://www.virtual.net.au/goto.php?page=forms
